Partnership with the leisure activities organised before and after school

Since 2015, the Auditorium-Orchestre national de Lyon has been a partner in the leisure activities organised in primary schools before and after school, coordinated the City of Lyon’s education department. For four years, it was a partner in the festival Les Chants de mars, when it accompanied the children from several MJC leisure clubs run by the City of Lyon in an ambitious musical project, which culminated in the presentation of a concert by the children on the Auditorium stage.

Today, the Auditorium-Orchestre national de Lyon offers pupils in Cycle 2 (CP-CE2 levels) four sessions of three percussion workshops.

The workshops take the following form :

> The first workshop is spent making percussion instruments (drums, shakers, tambourines, etc.) from recycled materials. Led by Claire Dariol, from Confluences Musicales, the workshop aims to raise the children’s awareness of the issues involved in recycling and teach them to make their own musical instrument.

> The other two workshops are devoted to group percussion sessions. The musicians who take music into schools, Benoit Garnica and Lucas Villon, offer the children activities that revolve around body percussion, singing and African percussion instruments, also including the instruments made by the children. Learning to play a percussion instrument remains an individual activity, but the main objective is to enable the children to share an enjoyable session of music making.
