The AO and the Conservatoire national supérieur musique et danse de Lyon (CNSMD) are long-standing partners and together develop large-scale projects.
PRE-CONCERT PERFORMANCES
The AO, alongside the CNSMD, is committed to providing its students with professional guidance and support at the end of their studies. The aim is to give tomorrow’s musicians the opportunity to perform in professional conditions by allowing them to perform in front of the audience, in the Auditorium’s main concert hall, prior to a concert by the Orchestre national de Lyon. An hour before certain concerts, these talented young musicians bring you a musical prelude of a very high standard – sometimes surprising or off-beat – that echoes the concert to come.

MASTER CLASS
The CNSMD in Lyon and the AO were keen to work together on developing a pilot project that would be a testing ground for the job fields associated with tomorrow’s orchestras. This project stems from the observation that the current training provided to musicians in the orchestra is mainly focused on preparing for competitions and requires outstanding musical qualities. A new course, combining theory and practical work, was accordingly designed to provide artistic and technical knowledge and hone the human qualities inspired by orchestras’ real-life professional demands.
This masters course is largely built around the issues currently facing orchestras and their stakeholders: the link between cultural and regional policies, in particular in the field of artistic and cultural education for audiences, diversity and equal opportunity issues, new communication media, etc. This training, which is the first of its kind in France to date, is a remarkable step forward in teaching methods and materials.
CNSMD CONCERT
The Orchestre du CNSMD de Lyon performs on the Auditorium’s main stage every season. This concert is a valuable step on the students’ path to a professional career and an opportunity for them to enchant their audience. The CNSMD de Lyon and the AO together fulfil their mission to pass on and disseminate both the musical heritage and contemporary compositions.
