The Lyon Auditorium is a colossal vessel in concrete and steel, whose distinctive silhouette has featured in the heart of the Part-Dieu district for over 50 years.

Following the success of a choral society, a Schola Cantorum founded with Charles Bordes in 1903 along similar lines to its sister establishment in Paris, Georges Martin Witkowski founds in 1905 the Société des Grands Concerts de Lyon, ancestor of the Orchestre national de Lyon.

The Auditorium-Orchestre national de Lyon is a partner in the leisure activities organised in primary schools before and after school, coordinated by the City of Lyon’s education department.

David Robertson left the Orchestre national de Lyon in 2004 for the St. Louis Orchestra in Missouri. Jun Märkl was appointed to succeed him from September 2005. 

Listening to Sir András Schiff is like diving into the depths. Depths of poetry, introspection, beauty, intelligence and silence. This English pianist of Hungarian descent is worshipped around the world, but seldom seen in France. We are tremendously lucky to receive him for four concerts during the 2020/2021 season.
